About this Microsite
The Three Rs microsite is part of a new initiative by the Canadian Council on
Animal Care (CCAC) to provide easily accessible, useful and relevant information
and resources on the Three Rs - Replacement, Reduction and Refinement
alternatives. For those involved in animal use in science, the site provides key principles on a comprehensive list of topics related to the Three Rs, with each topic containing
a small number of carefully selected links to other Three Rs-related resources and peer-reviewed
publications to provide more detailed scientific guidance on that topic.
For non-scientists, the site provides basic, introductory information on the Three Rs in the section Starting Point for Non-scientists to
help familiarize the reader with the topics and terminology used in the rest of the microsite.
All the linked resources have been carefully selected by experts for their relevance, quality and utility;
however, they are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of the available information on each
topic. Similarly, the information on the site is not meant to supplant CCAC guidelines and will not
be used as a basis for recommendations made in CCAC Assessment reports. Instead, the site will assist
visitors to find the specific information they need to fully implement the guidelines and the Three Rs,
and to achieve high standards of animal welfare. This website will be continually evolving, and all
visitors are invited to contribute their comments, questions and reference suggestions by email to
ThreeRs@ccac.ca
